Not in a spot to adopt? Send any pet a love potion here to support their general care!
Familiars Foster Network & Rescue encourages an adoption process that matches pets with families through dialogue and conversation. We believe there is a sweet spot between a completely hoop-free process and a painstakingly invasive one. We do not conduct formal vet checks, landlord checks, home visits, or background checks - unless something in the adoption application is cause for concern at the discretion of the Adoption Coordinator. Instead, we work to communicate with and educate the potential adopter from a place of empathy and trust. This philosophy is backed by the ASPCA. Our adoption process also empowers our fosters to make the final decision on if the applicant is the best fit for their foster animal based on those conversations and interactions.
Adoption Process
Please read the following before filling out an adoption application.
You may fill out an adoption application for an animal in our care at any time.
Please note: We will not begin processing applications or facilitating meet and greets for kittens until they are at least 8 weeks of age.Once you have filled out an application, you will receive a follow up email from our Adoption Coordinator within 1-3 business days. We are an all-volunteer run organization and appreciate your patience. If you have not heard back from us in a timely manner, feel free to follow up on your application by emailing hannah@familiarsrescue.org.
After our Adoption Coordinator has approved your application, it will be sent to the animal's foster and they will contact you to setup a meet and greet with them and the animal you are interested in adopting.
After the meet and greet, if you and the foster determine that you are the best fit for the animal, you will coordinate a time to finalize the adoption. This could happen the same day as the meet and greet as long as the animal is ready to go home. If the animal is still waiting on a spay/neuter surgery or in any other way not ready to leave the foster home that day, you may coordinate a future time to finalize the adoption. You are not able to bring the animal home until the adoption fee has been paid and the adoption contract has been signed.
