Frequently Asked Questions

Is FFNR a registered 501(c)3 non-profit?

Yes, Familiars Foster Network & Rescue is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit.

What areas does FFNR serve?

FFNR is 100% foster-based. Because of this, we do not have a main shelter location. We have fosters in Janesville, Beloit, Whitewater, and Madison and serve the surrounding southern Wisconsin areas into northern Illinois.

What animals does FFNR accept?

Familiars Foster Network & Rescue is a kitten-focused rescue. We specialize in the following case types: bottle baby kittens, nursing mom and kittens, and weaned kittens (up to 8 weeks of age). We may also accept socialized kittens up to 5 months of age depending on available resources and foster homes. The typical socialization window for a kitten is between 2-8 weeks of age. We do not accept feral kittens passed the socialization window.

We may accept other small animals on a case by case basis.

We do not accept dogs.

FFNR's ability to take in animals depends on the availability of resources and foster homes. If we do not have the means necessary to provide the best-possible environment for all animals in our care, we may have to turn away cases.

Where does FFNR get our animals?

Familiars Foster Network & Rescue accepts transfers from reputable shelters and rescues throughout Southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois, as well as local strays from within Rock County limits if they meet the above criteria.

Where does FFNR do their veterinary care?

Some routine veterinary care such as certain vaccinations, dewormer, and flea and tick treatment is done in the foster home by experienced FFNR fosters. Other necessary veterinary care such as microchipping, spay/neuter surgeries, and more is done at Precision Veterinary in Madison.
