Jim Hurley

President

James is currently an Animal Services Officer with Winnebago County Animal Services, but he has a long history in animal welfare. With over 25 years of experience in the Animal Welfare field, James has held many titles, from Animal Control Officer to Operations Director. In 2000 James was certified at the first State of Wisconsin Humane Officer training. Trained in recovery, he even uses his personal time and equipment to help recover dogs that are either abandoned or lost from their homes. And, as if that is not enough, he has studied Fire Sciences, EMT, and worked for the U.S. Forestry Service fighting wildfires.

His journey in animal welfare began with a simple ask from a friend to help with an animal control case when he was supposed to be going to a movie. In his free time, James enjoys spending time with his husband and friends. Having dinner parties, computer gaming, board games, and 3d printing.

Kelly became involved in animal rescue when she began fostering kittens for the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin in 2020. Since then, helping kittens in need, building relationships with other fosters, and connecting with adopters have become some of her greatest passions. Kelly is honored to represent the fosters of Familiars Foster Network and Rescue as a member of the board. She strives to serve as an advocate for the fosters, to promote open communication between the board and the fosters, and to encourage fosters to ask questions and voice concerns.

Along with her job and animal rescue, another great desire of hers is to empower individuals, particularly women, to solo travel. She enjoys solo road tripping, car camping, hiking, kayaking, and exploring the National Parks. Kelly emphasizes that traveling solo can be scary at first but is also one of the most liberating and life-changing adventures. She encourages people to not wait for anyone else and get out there!
